You may know of athletes that take cold water baths. This “shocking” therapy is shown to benefit many ailments and diseases\, chronic pain\, fatigue\, and mitigate anxiety and depression (see Wim Hof method and WebMD’s endorsement). We know how long winter can feel in Maine\, and to maintain our sanity\, it’s imperative to embrace the cold and dark months of the year just as much as we treasure our Maine summers. \n\n\n\nThat is why we think ‘Behold the Cold’ is the perfect annual fundraiser for Rett’s Roost. It’s part of our mission to use nature to heal and to be fully present and aware of both the sorrow and the beauty all around us. \n\n\n\nCheck out this video of our 1st Polar Plunge in 2022!

We also introduced our new End-of-Life Doula program with individual grief support for families. \n\n\n\nPlease remember to check with your employer about matching gifts or corporate sponsorships… many companies offer this option through their human resources or philanthropy department. We are offering many opportunities for businesses supporting our cause at our events next year. View our business sponsorship brochure here.  \n\n\n\nRett’s Roost also now accepts stock donations. SUMMARY:Yoga For Seasonal Anxiety & Depression
DESCRIPTION:Wintering in a cold climate is a practice\, just like yoga. If you don’t pay attention\, your mood can easily turn to gloom and doom\, and life can start to feel untenable. Taking care of one’s self in the wintertime should be a priority\, especially if you are someone that avoids being outdoors in the colder temps\, despises winter\, or shows symptoms of seasonal affective disorder. For these folks\, yoga is a perfect way to overcome the anxiety and depression that creeps in during the cold\, dark\, long months. \n\n\n\nThis class is accessible to anyone over 11 in moderately good health. No yoga experience is necessary. We will be moving\, to create heat from within\, and breathing\, to stoke that internal fire. The practice will begin and end with meditative breath-work in a restorative pose\, and in between\, we’ll salute the sun\, soften our effort\, and strengthen our mind through a flowing sequence of asanas (poses). \n\n\n\nJoin us on 3/2 at 12pm EDT online or at Yoga East in Kittery\, ME.  \n\n\n\n\nSign up\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMake a donation:\n\n\n\nPlease note that this yoga event is a donation-based class in support of the 3rd Annual Rett’s Roost Behold the Cold Polar Plunge happening the following day (please donate online or bring cash or check made out to Rett’s Roost to class). All funds raised will be used to help enrich the lives of families facing childhood cancer and child loss by providing them with peer support and therapies at our healing retreats. Donations are not required by families experiencing childhood cancer or child loss. \n\n\n\n\nDonate\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFind out how you can participate in the Polar Plunge too! Our community will be jumping into the ocean on March 3rd at 11am in Ogunquit (or any cold body of water near you). \n\n\n\n\nBehold the Cold

SUMMARY:One Mission Ferry Beach Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Ferry Beach Retreat & Conference Center – Saco\, ME\n\n\n\nJoin us this summer to connect and heal with other families that have a child recovering from cancer.\n\n\n\nKids activities provided by the amazing Camp Casco Counselors: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe understand that when a child is diagnosed with cancer\, the burden befalls the entire family. Parents\, siblings\, pets\, and loved ones experience a great deal of stress\, sadness\, and pain. The seemingly endless treatments\, surgeries and scans can leave the patient and family feeling anxious\, vulnerable\, even defeated. But we also know that the fight against cancer can also be an empowering one\, especially for survivors. \n\n\n\nAt Rett’s Roost\, we hope to create a joyful\, fearless\, empathetic space for families to relax\, renew\, and lament after months or years in a hospital environment. We focus on mindful\, positive living through healthy bodies\, minds\, and spirits. Our hope is to offer families facing the post-treatment world ways to ease their anxieties for the future\, reintegrate back into their pre-cancer lives\, and find moments of joy and gratitude in their daily lives. \n\n\n\nRetreat details: Eight families will be invited to join this carefully curated\, healing retreat. At Ferry Beach Retreat Center\, each family will have their own dormitory style bedroom(s). Bathrooms are shared. We will have full days of optional activities to connect with others and to heal within\, such as art\, music\, yoga\, games\, and nature experiences. \n\n\n\nDoes my family qualify? For this retreat\, we accept families that have a child who has been through cancer treatment and currently is NED (no evidence of disease) or has stable disease (maintenance treatment). We’ll be offering grief support\, yoga\, art\, and music/sound therapy. Also\, get a massage\, energy treatment\, and professional portraits taken. The beach is just a mile away and we will visit it a couple times. We give out small travel stipends to attending families. \n\n\n\n\nAPPLY\n\n\n\n\nDoes my family qualify?  For this retreat\, we will accept 4 families that have lost a child to cancer or\, in some cases\, other chronic pediatric illnesses. There is no restriction on the amount of time since your child’s death. Our retreats are best suited for children between the ages of 4-15\, however\, we do welcome families with older and younger children. Unfortunately\, we cannot accept parents that lost their only child or only have surviving children older than 18 at this retreat. \n\n\n\nDEI:  Rett’s Roost retreats are nondenominational. We act\, and ask our participants to act\, without discriminating against any person or organization because of their race\, age\, nationality\, gender\, sexual orientation\, or religious belief. \n\n\n\nCOVID-19: Currently we are requiring all parents and other adults (volunteers\, therapists) participating in this retreat to be vaccinated for COVID (at least 2 shots). We will be asking each attendee over 3 years old to take a rapid antigen test on arrival and a PCR test before the event if there has been a potential exposure. \n\n\n\nOur presenting sponsor for this retreat is The Parmenter Foundation. Parmenter funds organizations that serve people experiencing loss residing in the Metrowest region\, or adjacent towns\, in Massachusetts. \n\n\n\nCheck out photos from last year’s Bereavement Retreat at the Heartquarters:OGT – Sep ’22 – Bereaved \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral info about our retreats \n\n\n\nGet in touch for more details or sign up to volunteer for this retreat! \n\n\n\n\nAPPLY
