SUMMARY:One Mission Ferry Beach Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Ferry Beach Retreat & Conference Center – Saco\, ME\n\n\n\nJoin us this summer to connect and heal with other families that have a child recovering from cancer.\n\n\n\nKids activities provided by the amazing Camp Casco Counselors: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe understand that when a child is diagnosed with cancer\, the burden befalls the entire family. Parents\, siblings\, pets\, and loved ones experience a great deal of stress\, sadness\, and pain. The seemingly endless treatments\, surgeries and scans can leave the patient and family feeling anxious\, vulnerable\, even defeated. But we also know that the fight against cancer can also be an empowering one\, especially for survivors. \n\n\n\nAt Rett’s Roost\, we hope to create a joyful\, fearless\, empathetic space for families to relax\, renew\, and lament after months or years in a hospital environment. We focus on mindful\, positive living through healthy bodies\, minds\, and spirits. Our hope is to offer families facing the post-treatment world ways to ease their anxieties for the future\, reintegrate back into their pre-cancer lives\, and find moments of joy and gratitude in their daily lives. \n\n\n\nRetreat details: Eight families will be invited to join this carefully curated\, healing retreat. At Ferry Beach Retreat Center\, each family will have their own dormitory style bedroom(s). Bathrooms are shared. The house we will stay in together is a 2-minute walk to the sandy shore and lapping waves of the Atlantic. A handicap-accessible room is available–request early. Ferry Beach staff will be providing delicious\, healthy meals & snacks in their dining room (across the way from the lodging house). We will have full days of optional activities to connect with others and to heal within\, such as art\, music\, yoga\, games\, and nature experiences. \n\n\n\nDoes my family qualify? For this retreat\, we accept families that have a child who has been through cancer treatment and currently is NED (no evidence of disease) or has stable disease (maintenance treatment). We do not have medical staff onsite for children requiring frequent interventions. However\, there is an emergency room within 15 minutes and Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital is 30 minutes away. You must live within the 6 New England states or NY or NJ to apply. We give out small travel stipends to those coming from over 1-hour away. Our retreats are best suited for children between the ages of 4-15\, however\, we do welcome families with older and younger children. \n\n\n\nDEI:  Rett’s Roost retreats are nondenominational. We act\, and ask our participants to act\, without discriminating against any person or organization because of their race\, age\, nationality\, gender\, sexual orientation\, or religious belief. \n\n\n\nThe application period for this retreat will open up no later than 2/22/24. \n\n\n\nIf you are new to Rett’s Roost\, and would like to be notified first when we are accepting applications\, please fill out this form to get on our mailing list for families of survivors: \n\n\n\n\nFamily of a Patient or Survivor\n\n\n\n\nCheck out photo albums from last years’ retreats at Ferry Beach: 2022 Photos\, 2023 Photos \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral info about our retreats \n\n\n\nGet in touch for more details or sign up to volunteer for this retreat! \n\n\n\nCamp Casco 2024 Offerings\n\n\n\nAlso be sure to check out Camp Casco’s summer programs for childhood cancer patients\, survivors\, and siblings in New England! SUMMARY:Mini-Retreat at the Heartquarters
DESCRIPTION:A weekend to connect with other grieving families like yours\, honoring the children we lost too soon.\n\n\n\nPresented by: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAt Rett’s Roost\, we show people ways to experience moments of joy & gratitude amidst their grief. While we cannot hope to relieve your grief in just a few days\, our goal is to change your course toward healing even if you cannot yet see how that might be possible. We hope you leave feeling less alone in this lonely world of child loss\, with tools in your back pocket and friends to call on for when you enter those dark spaces of grief. \n\n\n\nThe retreat takes place at our Heartquarters in Ogunquit\, ME and runs from Friday through Sunday afternoon.Prior to the retreat\, parents will meet on zoom for 2-3 story-sharing\, grief-work sessions in April and May. This allows people to feel more comfortable coming together in-person in the summer already having met online. \n\n\n\nAt the retreat\, we offer many therapeutic\, supportive activities to connect with others and heal within. The agenda will include grief support\, yoga\, art\, and music for both parents and children. Also\, get a massage\, energy treatment\, meet with a medium\, and have professional family portraits taken. \n\n\n\nEach family will have their own bedroom. Bathrooms may be shared (please request a private bathroom if needed). There is a shared hot tub available on-site. Rett’s Roost staff will be providing delicious\, healthy meals. We’ll be offering grief support\, yoga\, art\, and music/sound therapy. Also\, get a massage\, energy treatment\, and professional portraits taken. The beach is just a mile away and we will visit it a couple times. We give out small travel stipends to attending families. \n\n\n\n\nAPPLY\n\n\n\n\nDoes my family qualify?  For this retreat\, we will accept 4 families that have lost a child to cancer or\, in some cases\, other chronic pediatric illnesses. There is no restriction on the amount of time since your child’s death. Our retreats are best suited for children between the ages of 4-15\, however\, we do welcome families with older and younger children. Unfortunately\, we cannot accept parents that lost their only child or only have surviving children older than 18 at this retreat. \n\n\n\nDEI:  Rett’s Roost retreats are nondenominational. We act\, and ask our participants to act\, without discriminating against any person or organization because of their race\, age\, nationality\, gender\, sexual orientation\, or religious belief. \n\n\n\nCOVID-19: Currently we are requiring all parents and other adults (volunteers\, therapists) participating in this retreat to be vaccinated for COVID (at least 2 shots). We will be asking each attendee over 3 years old to take a rapid antigen test on arrival and a PCR test before the event if there has been a potential exposure. \n\n\n\nOur presenting sponsor for this retreat is The Parmenter Foundation. Parmenter funds organizations that serve people experiencing loss residing in the Metrowest region\, or adjacent towns\, in Massachusetts. \n\n\n\nCheck out photos from last year’s Bereavement Retreat at the Heartquarters:OGT – Sep ’22 – Bereaved \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral info about our retreats \n\n\n\nGet in touch for more details or sign up to volunteer for this retreat! \n\n\n\n\nAPPLY
