For teens that want to talk to other teens about what it was like to lose a brother or sister.
This group meets the first three Mondays of August at 7pm EDT on Zoom. The course is co-led by Deana Cavan (Rett’s Roost founder & retreat leader) and Tabetha May (Center for Grieving Children facilitator, RYT, Reiki Master).
For the first meeting we ask the teens to bring a picture of their sibling, maybe one of them together, and an object of their sibling’s that they keep close. They’ll be asked to share something positive about their sibling, and something hard that they faced, and any other aspects of their sibling’s story or their grief story that they want to share.
The second session we will introduce the stages of grief in a really free form way. We will teach the concept of grief being love that has no where to go and how to nurture and honor our grief as something challenging but not bad. And we’ll offer some self-care tips that are easy, quick, and free. They will have 15-20 minutes at the end where we sign off and they can just chat with each other without the pressure of facilitators.
The third class we will offer a short meditation at the beginning. We’ll have them do a quick writing or art exercise, and then we will give them at least 30 minutes on their own to converse with each other, share numbers, make connections/friends for the future hopefully.
Please apply below, we prefer the teens apply themselves rather than a parent apply for them. Thank you!
