If you haven’t yet heard of the benefits of submerging one self into freezing cold water as a form of therapy, then let me share, because at Rett’s Roost we love to promote self-care and easy, inexpensive ways to therapeutically support our wellbeing during trying times. You may know of athletes that take cold water baths. This “shocking” therapy is shown to benefit many ailments and diseases, chronic pain, fatigue, and mitigate anxiety and depression (see Wim Hof method and WebMD’s endorsement). We know how long winter can feel in Maine, and to maintain our sanity, it’s imperative to embrace the cold and dark months of the year just as much as we treasure our Maine summers.
That is why we think ‘Behold the Cold’ is the perfect annual fundraiser for Rett’s Roost. It’s part of our mission to use nature to heal and to be fully present and aware of both the sorrow and the beauty all around us.
Anyone that would like to participate will start their own fundraising page for Rett’s Roost, with the goal of raising $222 or more (not a requirement, but if you do, we’ll have a prize for you!). You can create your own page below (click on “I want to Fundraise for this”) or feel free to create a fundraiser on Facebook.
The fundraiser will last for 1.5 weeks and will culminate on or around March 5th with your plunge into any cold body of water (come dip in solidarity at Ogunquit Beach!). During that time, feel free to do a few extra plunges on your own to create awareness around your campaign to raise more funds. Post on social media, we promise you’ll get lots of comments and likes for being so crazy!
